River Bend Golf & Country Club 94 Shoreline Dr. 252/638-2819, Semi-private, 18 hole,6404 yds, Par 71, CR-70.5, S-117 Although semiprivate, River Bend Golf and Country Club makes the 18-hole, par 71 recently rebuilt course available for public play with reservations up to seven days in advance. Bermudagrass greens, varied terrain, added sand bunkers and sodded fairways give the fine course layout extra appeal. A lighted driving range and putting green are available for evening practice hours. Nonmember fee is $48 for 18 holes with a cart. Only members may walk. PGA pro Keith Kelly offers lessons, clinics and club repair, and the pro shop is fully stocked. Summers bring junior golf camp for ages 5 to 14 years. A mini-tournament camp finale allows new golfers to test what they've learned against one another and themselves. Membership entitles fee-free tennis court use and swimming in the area's largest outdoor pool. The grill and catering facility accommodates up to 120 guests. The Grill Room is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 7 PM for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is available all day Sunday, and lunch is served until the grill closes at 7 PM.
Emerald Golf Club (Greenbriar) 5000 Clubhouse Dr. 252/633-4440, semi-private, 18 hole, 6924 yds, Par 72,CR-74.5, S-125 The Emerald Golf Club welcomes golfers of all levels to a 7000 yard, par 72 course of 18 challenging holes, each uniquely designed by Rees Jones. Water features, sand obstacles and holes planted in differing grasses, most offering variable tee locations, present each hole as one of a kind. The 4th tee allows four separate locations for driving across water as well as one high land shot. Golf pros Jerry Briele and Catie Camacho in the fully stocked pro shop are available for lessons and advice, and a driving range and deli cater to all players. Members make tee time reservations two weeks in advance, one week ahead for non-members. The fee for 18 holes is $56 every day and includes cart, as only members may walk the course. Open membership adds use of tennis courts, swimming pool and club facilities to golfing privileges.
Carolina Pines Golf & Country Club 390 Carolina Pines Blvd, 252/444-1000, semi-private, 18 hole, 6270 yds, Par 72, CR-69.5, S-115 Carolina Pines Golf and Country Club showcases the beauty of the Neuse River winding through the championship 18-hole, par 72 course. About 10 miles east of New Bern off U.S. Highway 70 E, the course offers such treats as par 5 Hole 15 atop a cliff overlooking the Neuse River, and six other greens featuring water in play. Sand traps add challenge to bermudagrass fairways. A clubhouse with lounge and patio overlooking freshwater lakes offers lunch and full dinners daily. Tee time arrangements can be made online or by phone. Fees— $26 weekdays, $29 weekends — include cart, but walkers are welcome weekdays. There's a twilight discount for tee times after 2 PM. A pro shop, complete driving range and practice area are available.
Harbour Point Course 1100 Pelican Dr. 252/514-0050, semi-private, 18 hole 6802 yds, Par72, CR-72, S-128 Under new management, Harbour Pointe (formerly Fairfield Harbour) Golf Club opens the 18-hole championship course to the public seven days a week. Greens are planted with Tif Eagle Bermudagrass, and hazards are challenging. Fees for nine or 18 holes include carts. Harbour Pointe offers a pro shop and a driving range. A new, complete grill will be in operation this season. To get to the course, cross the Neuse River Bridge out of New Bern on U.S. Highway 17. Turn right on N.C. Highway 55, continue about a half-mile to the traffic light and turn right onto Broad Creek Road. Signs will direct you from that point.

Quaker Neck Country Club, a semi-private course in Trenton, offers 18
challenging holes with weekend fees of $25 with cart, weekdays at $20 or
walk anytime for $15. The 6010-yard course is great for family play and
has limited practice range and a snack shop. Social dues of $90 monthly
for a family add Olympic-size swimming pool and boat ramp privileges.
Quaker Neck boasts excellent greens and offers lessons from golf pro
Harold Randall. Banquet facilities are available to the public for
privately catered functions. To get there, head south on U.S. Highway 17
out of New Bern and west on N.C. Highway 58 South to Oak Grove Road and
Country Club Lane in Jones County.

Celebrating 41 years in business, Minnesott Golf and Country Club continues to welcome new members to enjoy 18 holes on championship bermudagrass greens. In 6001 yards are sand traps, eight holes with water, large oaks and tall pines, with walking allowed for those preferring time to enjoy the quiet beauty. From New Bern, take U.S. Highway 70 East, staying right on N.C. Highway 55 to the Pamlico County traffic light; take a right on N.C. Highway 306 through Arapahoe and take a right on Country Club Drive for a pleasant drive to end at the club. The pro shop includes a snack bar. Lessons with PGA club pro Terry Bobbin are available. Fee is $38 for 18 holes with cart, $22 for 9; walkers are welcome at $24 for 18 holes, $15 for 9. Tee times after noon can be obtained for $32. Amenities include a pool, a full service grill and a ballroom. |
